異常事件研究所，主要進行超自然現象、不明飛行物（UFO）、球形閃電等異常事件方面的研究，負責保護人們和世界免受神秘主義、超自然等活動的侵害。在國外，類似機構又稱作超自然現象研究和防御局（Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense），簡稱B.P.R.D.或者超自然調查防御署。
